Ya know…It’s not always easy working somewhere… long hours, mean-spirited people…. all for what? Well, money, that’s what. But sometimes customers can really show their appreciation to a hard working person.
In Bishop, California, 20-year-old Starbucks worker Andrew Richardson was at the drive-thru window serving up several drinks to a customer named Debbie. When she asked for a drink-holder, Andrew had to apologize and tell her they were out of them. She seemed a little uncomfortable with that… obviously, because she didn’t want any of those drinks to spill in her car. Then she asked if he could accept and throw away some of the trash in her car.
Andrew shook his head and said he was sorry, that it was against the state’s health code to do that. Then Debbie got a little more frustrated and, according to Andrew, started getting “playfully sassy.”… nothing really out of line, and when she left, the young worker didn’t really give it much more thought.
The next day, Debbie walked into the Starbucks and walked up to Andrew and apologized for her behavior from the day before and handed him a card.
Says Andrew: “She felt genuinely terrible about our interaction the day before. I was so heart-warmed to even get a verbal apology. It doesn’t happen much.”
After Debbie left, Andrew opened the card… and a $50 bill popped out. He was stunned. Had she been there at the time, he would have returned the money to her and thanked her for the kind gesture.
And after reading the card, Andrew was very humbled, saying, “This was one of the most beautiful and heartfelt things I have ever read.”
