Serena made the announcement on Instagram, where she uploaded many photographs of herself and her husband in preparation for the Met Gala. Serena captioned her Instagram image, “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala.”
In September 2017, Serena and Alexis had their first child, Olympia. Serena’s pregnancy and delivery are extensively featured in the HBO Max documentary “Becoming Serena.”
Serena subsequently said that her pregnancy had been quite simple, despite the fact that her daughter was delivered through an emergency c-section. Serena had a pulmonary embolism shortly after giving birth and had to undergo many surgeries.
She said that her C-section wound popped open due to the intense coughing she endured as a result of the embolism. She returned to surgery, where physicians discovered a massive hematoma, or clotted blood swelling, in her belly. Then she was taken back to the operating room for a procedure that prevents blood clots from reaching her lungs. She had to spend the first six weeks of motherhood in bed when she eventually got home to her family.
Serena talked to Vogue in August 2022 about a potential second pregnancy. She stated that in the last year, Alexis and she have been trying to have another child, and they recently got a few details from her doctor that put her mind at ease and made her feel like they can add to their family whenever they’re ready. She does not wish to be pregnant as an athlete again. She prefers to be two feet in or two feet out of tennis.
