Debra Cooper was sitting in cap and gown at her graduation ceremony from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, when she got a big surprise. Her 28-year-old daughter, Staff Sgt. Markita James snuck up behind her and surprised her. She had secretly returned from active duty in Afghanistan.
The university was in on the special surprise, and the president mentioned Debra’s name during a speech. Debra was shocked when her name was mentioned.
Then the president said Debra’s daughter had returned from active duty, and Debra turned around… and there was Markita. It was a very happy day for both of them.
