Suzanne Somers’ Loved Ones Mark Her 77th Birthday After Her Passing

Suzanne Somers’ family commemorated what would have been her 77th birthday in honor of the late matriarch. On the evening of the day after the actress passed away, Somers’ official Instagram account posted a video reel featuring her husband of 46 years, Alan Hamel, and son, Bruce Somers Jr., along with other family members singing “Happy Birthday” around a decorated cake.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming love and support received, the caption on the post invited well-wishers to contribute their thoughts to a Tribute Book set up on SuzanneSomers.com. The family found comfort in hearing how Suzanne had impacted the lives of those who admired her.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Hamel, aged 87, shared that the family gathered to celebrate Suzanne’s life on the day following her passing. They toasted to her memory, and plans were in place for additional commemorations that day. Hamel mentioned Suzanne’s fondness for cake, particularly her love for “all cakes” and a special preference for “red velvet cake.” He recounted memorable moments from their first encounter in 1969 on the set of The Anniversary Game, highlighting the immediate connection he felt with her.

Hamel revealed that he gifted Suzanne a poem a day before what would have been her 77th birthday. Suzanne read the poem before peacefully passing away in her sleep. Her publicist, R. Couri Hay, confirmed her death and provided details of her peaceful passing at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. Suzanne, who had battled an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years, was surrounded by her husband, son, and immediate family.

Acknowledging the planned celebration for Suzanne’s birthday on October 16th, the family chose to celebrate her extraordinary life instead. The statement expressed gratitude to Suzanne’s millions of fans and followers for their deep affection for the beloved actress.
