A teacher recently went viral for instantly transporting a 40kg refrigerator through a Penampang bush after learning that kids at his rural school’s dormitories required one.
The instructor, Harry Yanto Bikal, also known as Cikgu Harry, undertook the trip last month for the benefit of the nine kids who live at the dormitory of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Longkogungan in Penampang, Sabah.
Another of the school’s instructors described his difficult journey and appreciated him sincerely for the wonderful act.
The video shows him tracking through the bush, rivers, and even a shaky bridge has received over 200,000 views and innumerable compliments from netizens.
It was found that it took him around eight hours to travel 10 kilometers from the village of Donggonggon, where he purchased the refrigerator, to the school.
Cikgu Harry told Harian Metro in an interview that the only route to reach SK Longkogungan, which is located further inland between the two provinces of Penampang and Tambunan, was on foot.
The only approach to the school is via the steep forests and a few rivers, he continued, which is why no other mode of transportation can reach it.
The primary school has a total of 11 pupils. Nine of the kids live at the hostel since their houses are too far away from the rural school.
Cikgu Harry stated that when he visits Donggonggon on weekends, he usually brings them extra supplies and groceries.
As per him, the refrigerator was a gift from all of the school instructors to the hostel.
They intended to ensure that the pupils’ favorite foods, such as chicken, fish, and vegetables, could last more than a day.
This has been planned for a long time since it is difficult to transport a fridge with no vehicle access, Cikgu Harry told Harian Metro.
But this hasn’t deterred them from doing their best for the pupils, added the instructor, who has been there for two years.
He praised the Sabah state parliament and a few other non-governmental organizations after learning that the video had gone viral.
Lastly, he wished that people in charge would construct a road that would enable automobiles to access the school in the future.
Netizens flocked to the comments section to offer Cikgu Harry positive reactions and to wish him well.
