Amber Heard and her ex-husband Johnny Depp have been embroiled in a bitter legal battle for several weeks.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star launched a lawsuit against his ex after she asserted she was a victim of domestic abuse in a 2019 op-ed for The Washington Post. Although she never directly identified him — and, according to court testimony, had attorneys review the article before publication — Depp feels it harmed his reputation and cost him many acting gigs.
As the terrible defamation trial continues, numerous witnesses, from doormen to security guards, have taken the stand, but one lady in particular has come up a few times in the court process – Heard’s previous personal assistant. When Heard recruited James, she had 10 years of experience working as a personal assistant to A-List celebrities. According to her court testimony, she normally worked for $50 an hour (or around $100,000 per year).

Heard recruited James in 2012 and she stayed with her for three years. She also stated that she was paid “extremely badly” and received only half of her typical wage while working for the Zombieland actress.
Her tasks included not just talking to agents, but also simple things like picking up her dry cleaning, grooming the dogs, doing her shopping, and generally keeping everything in her life going as flawlessly as could really be expected.

In a videotaped deposition, James revealed situations in which the All the Boys Love Mandy Lane actress verbally abused her over minor slip-ups. In one case, James said she left a magazine out by accident, and Heard went “totally berserk” at her, “shouting” and “hollering abuse.”
Heard, according to the personal assistant, would also send her “oppressive instant messages constantly.” James said in the video to the court that the barrage would begin between 2 and 4 a.m. It’s all nonsensical and makes no sense; it’s simply someone to lash out against. There is no obvious cause behind it.
She stated that Johnny Depp was a gentleman.
Regardless of Heard’s claims, James affirmed that she knew the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actor as a “complete Southern gentleman.”
When she was with Depp, she characterized him as “calm, almost bashful,” and he was “totally inactive” most of the time. He was also quite nice to her son, occasionally playing with him and giving him toys, she said.

Heard’s former personal assistant said she was dismissed unexpectedly in 2015 after the actress alleged she couldn’t afford to keep paying her because her “mother was unwell.” James also indicated that she was “surprised” to be let go.
