A South Carolina lady may finally smile again after undergoing surgery to repair her bottom lip, which was bitten off by her ex-boyfriend after she refused to reconcile with him.
Kayla Hayes said of the attack that he wanted to make her unattractive so no one would love her..
Hayes described Seth Fleury as her first serious lover. She was 17 at the time. He was 21 years old. She said he made her believe he loved her.
Yet, Fleury immediately turned out to be excessively controlling, Hayes said. She attempted to say a final farewell to him over and again, however each time he would give her cards asking for pardoning and she’d buckle.
But, according to Hayes, Fleury rapidly became too domineering. She attempted to break up with him several times, but each time he showered her with cards pleading for forgiveness, and she caved.
Hayes finally ended their relationship after 11 months of dating. She decided to meet Fleury one final chance to return some personal things. She said she was in her car when he abruptly lunged forward to kiss her, but it wasn’t a kind parting kiss.
Hayes recounted with tears in her eyes that he came right up to her, attempted to kiss her. She reclined against the seat and he just grabbed onto her.
Fleury pressed down so hard on her lip that he chewed it off. He was detained as a result of the horrific attack and eventually pled guilty to assault and battery. Earlier this month, he was sentenced to 12 years in jail.
Hayes was scarred and attracted attention every time she went out in public, she claimed. She felt like a beast, she posted on Facebook in response to Fleury’s conviction.
Dr. Brian Boland, a reconstructive surgeon, helped her regain her grin. “It’s awful. “It’s a horrible thing,” Boland said of the attack, adding that he’s glad he was able to help her move on.
Hayes, for her part, has started a Facebook group called “Rise Above” in order to raise awareness about domestic abuse.
She has also come to accept her scars as a result of her new lover, Blake. He does an excellent job of telling her how gorgeous they are, she remarked of her new lover.
