On Sunday, April 30, 2023, tragedy struck Tampa. Arrayah Barrett, two, drowned in her family’s pool. Shaquil Barrett, a Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker, was her father.
Officers responded to a 911 call at 9:30 a.m. Arrayah was sent to a nearby hospital, where life-saving efforts were undertaken. They were unsuccessful, and she was declared dead at the hospital.
The occurrence is now thought to be an accident, while the inquiry is still underway.
It does not appear to be suspicious in nature at this time, but rather a purely accidental and tragic incident, the Tampa Police Department stated in a statement.
Shaquil and his wife, Jordanna Barrett, have four children. They had been high school sweethearts. Arrayah had just turned two years old.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released a statement conveying their condolences for this terrible incident: Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all Buccaneers family members. During this unbearably difficult time, their thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family. While no words can truly ease them at this time, they provide love and support as they begin to deal with the profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.
On social media, Tom Brady also expressed his sympathy. He shared a picture of the Barrett family with the words “the Bradys love you” superimposed on it on his Instagram stories. He and Shaquil were teammates in the past.
