Za’myah Judge, six, who her family affectionately referred to as Boo Boo, died on Saturday after falling into an above-ground pool in her neighbor’s backyard on S. Emerson Street. Detectives in North Carolina suspect the toddler gained entry to the pool by crawling over a closed fence. They suspect the little girl put chairs against her next-door neighbor’s barred pool fence in order to climb over it.
According to police, her five-year-old younger brother watched his sister enter the water and “went for aid when he did not see her emerge.”
The Gastonia Police Department issued the following statement in response to the situation: The Gastonia Police Department is probing the drowning death of a six-year-old child in a domestic pool on June 11. There is no evidence of foul play in the girl’s death.
On June 11, at 4:29 p.m., #GastoniaPD officers and Fire & Rescue personnel attended a residence on S. Emerson Street for a report of a suspected drowning in an above-ground pool in the rear. Prior to first responders coming, family members removed the six-year-old from the water and performed life-saving procedures.
When first responders got to the scene, they took over life-saving procedures and transferred the girl, named as Za’myah Judge, to a nearby hospital. At the hospital, Judge was declared dead. According to police’ preliminary investigation, Judge put six chairs against her next-door neighbor’s locked pool fence, climbed over the barrier, and into the water. Judge’s younger brother informed detectives that he witnessed Judge enter the water and fled for aid when she did not reappear.

Christian Cash, described as Za’myah’s mother, stated that she last saw her little girl earlier that afternoon, after she completed eating lunch at their house. She had no idea that would be their final encounter. Cash stated that she responded, ‘OK, I’m done. I love you.’
The mom is devastated by her child’s death- ‘Why? Why? She still had her entire life ahead of her; she was six years old, pure, and naive.’ In fact, when her son came in to tell her what had occurred, she was tidying their house and getting ready to take her kids to a neighbourhood pool. Cash expressed that no one will ever be able to replace her, and life will never be the same without her.
