King and Royce were married on September 16, 1944. On her wedding day, she lacked a dress at the moment. On September 24, 2021, however, the hospice staff arranged for her to wear a beautiful antique white gown for her wedding ceremony.

The reenactment of the couple’s wedding was packed with several touching moments, and the whole hospice staff could not stop fawning over the adorable pair. Henry Michaelson, a photographer and member of the St. Croix Hospice staff, reflected on the event and said that It was really difficult to refrain from crying behind the camera as he saw the emotion shared by this lovely couple and the love and care with which their staff prepared this occasion for them.
Sue Bilodeau, the couple’s daughter, was also there and aided her mother with preparations. King’s then-98-year-old husband waited for his adored wife in his Air Force uniform at a makeshift chapel decked with flowers.

The reenacted wedding took place when the hospice staff inquired about the elderly couple’s wedding photos. Sue Bilodeau, the daughter of King, stated why her parents never had a spectacular wedding—her mom had told her that they were married on a two-day notice when Dad was on a brief leave—before his deployment abroad during World War II. And they lacked the time to organize a large wedding.
St. Croix Hospice provided care and assistance to King and Royce at their Oelwein residence. A few weeks before the couple’s wedding, the hospice staff decided to transform their garden into a setting reminiscent of the 1940s.
The couple’s music therapist enhanced the moment by performing 1940s popular songs on saxophone and guitar.

Royce and King peered adoringly into one another’s eyes as they embraced and kissed in front of the flower-covered archway. Bilodeau noted that when her father met her mother, he smiled the largest grin in the world and never stopped.
The Kings, who had 2 kids, four grandkids, and a number of great-grandchildren, relived the most memorable day of their lives in the company of several well-wishers. Netizens were equally enamored by their reunion, and many were eager to convey their affection in comments.
