A 75-year-old grandfather, Richard Riggs from New York, pass away in a crash involving a stolen car and the man’s wife and daughter came across the wreckage while out driving. Richard died in the multi-vehicle wreck on the Southern State Parkway.
It’s a day that Carol Riggs will never fail to recall. She and her daughter happened to be driving along the same expressway when they came across the crash and her daughter recognized her father’s car.
Carol’s daughter to her mother that looks like her father’s car. She starts screaming as she was reading the license plate number. And there was no way for them to get over there because there was traffic blocked all the way around them. Carol called her son-in-law to get more info who established that it was her husband of nearly 52 years; he was dead in the vehicle at the time they passed.
Carol said that her husband was the kind of person that would have jumped out of his car to help somebody in this situation. She said that they lost a special man that they will never get back.
Police department said the crash involved a white Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Range Rover that was later determined to have been stolen. The crash transpired after the two cars tried to pass in between two other cars. The collision caused Richard’s car to hit a tree and flip over and died at the scene.
Police said that 2 people from the stolen Range Rover were seen being picked up by the Jeep before fleeing the scene.
Richard, who worked as a salesman, leaves behind a wife, three daughters and four grandchildren.
Carol says she can’t get the image of her husband’s upturned car out of her mind and is pleading with the public to come forward with any evidence that could help catch those accountable.
