A brave Massachusetts couple jumped into action after recognising a car that matched the depiction of one police were searching for, and ended up assisting authorities in the rescue of an 11-year-old girl who’d been abducted at knifepoint.
Benny Correa and his wife, Amanda Disley, were driving home after supper with family in Brimfield, Massachusetts, when they observed a dark blue Honda Civic.
The windows were tinted, and the rims were one-of-a-kind, like the ones they had seen on the news in reports of the midday kidnapping of Charlotte Moccia minutes after she’d gotten off the transport from school in Springfield. As a result, they chose to follow the automobile, with their five children sitting behind them, and dialled 911.
Disley expressed that they simply had a gut sense it was the automobile. The pair confirmed the licence plate number while on the phone with police. It was the suspect’s vehicle.
They stayed up with the speculation vehicle, even as it accelerated. They kept up with the suspect’s automobile, even as it accelerated. While chasing the car, Correa even ran a red light, slowing down first to ensure it was safe.
“I cut off individuals and came up close to the automobile,” Correa explained. “As a father, I had to do what I had to do.”
The couple’s car soon ran out of petrol, and the chase came to an end. By that moment, though, cops had set up shop at a construction site and had approached traffic diverted into a single lane. When officials discovered the suspect’s automobile, they were able to halt it and save Charlotte.
Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood stated that it was really a matter of life and death for this little girl. The young lady was transported to the hospital for examination.
Miguel Rodriguez, 24, was the driver, and he was apprehended by police. The car included a knife, which was retrieved.
Rodriguez was accused of exasperated abducting and attacking through a risky weapon. He is being held without bail, and it was unclear if he had filed a plea or had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
Charlotte’s parents, Carl and Denise Moccia, issued a statement thanking everyone who assisted in the safe recovery of their daughter. “We’d want to thank Amanda Disley and her husband in particular for their diligence and courage in placing themselves in danger to ensure she wasn’t out of their sight,” the parents added. “The outpouring of love and support, both close and distant, has been astounding. We will be forever thankful.”
