An Army veteran Davin Dumar said that he never believed that he would be in that position. He was visiting Jeepers in Lakeside Mall earlier this month for a child’s birthday when he was asked to leave because other clients were uncomfortable with his Doberman service dog.
Davin lived two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan where he lost his leg and suffered other injuries after this troop was trapped. Now he is fighting a fight for disabled people with service dogs.
Davin’s dog, called Layla, never leaves his side and that includes the day he went to Jeepers in Sterling Heights. Davin said that they were there for about an hour and Layla didn’t bark at anyone, she didn’t snarl at anybody and she just laid down on the ground.
Davin said that he was told by the owner of Jeepers’s that Layla was making other customers uncomfortable and he would have to leave and that this is a food establishment and dogs aren’t allowed. When Davin showed his service dog card, the proprietor quizzed his situation.
Davin said that his condition is kind of his personal matter. He said that it is a medical history and do not think that he have to tell the proprietor the details just to be able to stay there. Even after he showed his prosthetic, he was still told to leave the place.
Rose Yazigi, the owner of Jeepers says that Layla was very well acted and did not trouble other customers. She acknowledged that other customers protested saying the dog scared them.
Davin said that he is sure that no one would have complained and there would have been no issue. The owner said she approach the army vet out of ignorance and didn’t realize Layla was a service dog. She said that she have never seen before a vested service dog.
The proprietor says she never asked Davin to vacate the place but felt obligated to address the state because of strident customers. She further said that Davin has every right to be in the amusement park.
In retrospection, the proprietor of Jeeper’s says she would have never approached him and is sorry that she made him feel unwelcome. Rose says that she plans to reach out the Army veteran to apologize to him. She hopes others can absorb from her fault.
Davin added that he just don’t want this to happen to somebody else.
