According to authorities, British model Kate Moss will assert that her ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp ‘caught her and cared to her’ when she tripped while wearing flip flops and went down several steps in Jamaica.
Moss, 48, who dated Depp from 1994 to 1997, is scheduled to testify on Wednesday in the actor’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. The famously quiet model, who seldom shares her personal life, will assert publicly in defense of Depp, and is anticipated to refute Heard’s accusation that Depp shoved Moss down the steps.
According to a source acquainted with the matter, Moss will discuss an event that occurred as she was “going down some steps in Jamaica.” ‘She was wearing flip-flops and stumbled on the last two steps.’ Johnny apprehended her and cared for her.’
Heard mentioned Moss in her evidence earlier this month, claiming she felt a connection to her because of an allegation that Depp threw her down the stairs while they were dating in the 1990s.
However, by bringing up the alleged wrongdoing, Heard unintentionally permitted Depp’s attorneys to summon her as a witness to debate the story, which insiders claim is false.
Depp’s legal team could be seen fist pumping and cheering after Heard brought forward the claim. It comes after Heard’s legal team revealed yesterday that they had altered their minds and would not bring Depp back to testify because he would be “as relevant to us as a bicycle to a fish.”
‘Everything Depp has admitted about up to this point has been immaterial to the core of this case, and there’s no reason to expect that would change now,’ Heard’s attorney added.
Heard first mentioned Moss on May 5, when she told the jury about a March 2015 brawl in which she slapped Depp in the face because she was afraid he would shove her sister, Whitney, down the stairs. By naming Moss in federal court in Fairfax, Virginia, his lawyers may now summon her as a witness and dispute that the event ever occurred.
According to a source close to the case, Moss’ statement about falling down several steps will not help Heard. ‘Johnny picked up Kate and carried her – this was not Amber’s terrifying version of events,’ the insider added, adding that Depp’s legal team had been in contact with Moss in the recent week.
‘Kate has nothing to gain by testifying, but she is passionate about protecting her buddy,’ the person continued.
The defamation trial is centered on Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Depp is suing his ex-wife for $50 million, citing defamation in the op-ed, while Heard has countersued for $100 million.
In February 2015, the pair married in a secret civil ceremony at their Los Angeles home, but after just 15 months of marriage, Heard filed for divorce in May 2016, alleging unresolved issues. A court imposed a temporary restraining order against Depp four days later due to claims of domestic abuse.
Moss and Depp dated for four years before splitting up in 1997, yet they were still spotted together in public in May 1998 at the Cannes Film Festival. Their relationship was tumultuous at times, with others reporting they were spotted screaming at one other in public.
Depp was charged for criminal mischief on September 13, 1994, at New York City’s Mark Hotel for reportedly damaging his hotel room. When police came about 5.30 a.m. that day, they discovered Depp ‘in a condition of apparent drunkenness,’ but Moss was unharmed.
A criminal-court judge subsequently dropped the charges against the Pirates of the Caribbean actor on the basis that he kept out of trouble for six months, and Depp paid the hotel almost $10,000, including more than $2,000 in damages and the balance of his reservation.
Nonetheless, Moss told Vanity Fair in 2012 that she spent “years” sobbing for Depp after their relationship ended.
‘No one has ever been able to take care of me. Johnny did it for a while. ‘I believed him,’ she told the magazine. ‘Like if I said, ‘What do I do?,’ he’d say. That’s what I was missing when I left.
‘I truly lost that sense of someone I could trust,’ she continued, calling the experience a ‘horror.’
