Note: We are republishing this story in light of recent claims of an increase in violent crime and house burglaries across the United States as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

Police showed up to a complaint from a house in the 800 block of Spring Street around 10:56 p.m. The caller had not stated the nature of the issue.

When they arrived at the house, the homeowner reported that he had discovered a Hispanic guy, 28-year-old Kevin Mitchell Gonzales, trying to enter the garage without authorization.

The homeowner got into a battle with Gonzales, who brought out a revolver and fired one bullet during the battle. Gonzalez’s gun was taken away by the homeowner. He then restrained Gonzales until cops showed up.

Authorities discovered 18 Lorazepam tablets in Gonzales’ trousers pocket in a transparent plastic bag.

Criminal Trespass with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Controlled Substance PG-3 were brought against the defendant. He was brought without incident to the Gregg County Jail.

The homeowner was not injured as a result of the occurrence.
