A mom accused of stabbing her partner to death with a single stab wound stated he enjoyed ‘rough sex.’
Hayley Keating, 31, said in court that Matthew Wormleighton, 45, suffocated her with his hands and belt on a frequent basis, forcing her to ‘pass out.’
After recovering consciousness, Keating alleges she told her boyfriend that it felt like rape.
The pair were fighting when she took up a knife from a kitchen drawer on the night Mr Wormleighton died at a house in Chilthorne Domer near Yeovil on May 14, last year.
According to Bristol Crown Court, this was when she hurled it at him, where it stuck four inches into his chest during an altercation fueled by booze and narcotics.
The court also included a tape of the mother-of-two, who rejects murder, telling a 999 call operator that night that she had stabbed him and that he was now dying.
At times he would strangle her out, and she would pass out, Keating of Chilthorne Domer told the court.
At times, he’d do it with his hands. Sometimes he’d do it with a belt, rapidly wrapping it around her head in a loop.
She would be on all fours, and he’d be behind her. She’d pass out, and coming back around was terrifying. She didn’t say much and simply advised him to be careful. She was fine with it because he liked it and enjoyed doing it.
Being completely out didn’t help her and was delighted to help him.
She further stated that Mr Wormleighton had to be cared for following a mental health crisis and was wonderful.
At 4.45 a.m. on May 14, 2021, police arrived and took him to Yeovil District Hospital, where he was declared dead.
She stabbed him and he’s dying, the emergency call taker was informed. She got upset and threw a knife at him, and he’s dying. Please arrive as soon as possible.
The initial cause of death was determined by a post-mortem study to be a single stab wound.
Miss Jo Martin, QC, the prosecutor, earlier informed the jury that she murdered her spouse with a knife she took from the kitchen.
There was a single wound to his chest, she explained. Her huge kitchen knife penetrated his chest to a depth of 10 cm.
Keating quickly called 911 to report that she had stabbed him.
Miss Martin, however, stated that ‘that may not be correct,’ because Keating now claims that she threw the knife in his direction, she does not understand how he became hurt, and she cannot recall what transpired.
Miss Martin stated that the jury must now investigate how the knife wound up in the father-of-two’s chest to a depth of 10cm, if she flung it or kept it in her hand when she stabbed him.
According to the court, Keating was ‘mad and outraged’ at the time of the incident since Mr Wormleighton was ‘attempting to leave her.’
Mr Wormleighton, according to the mom of two, was abusive towards her in the past and on the night in question, which ‘petrified her.’
The victim was said to be domineering and forceful towards Keating, who the prosecution claims suffers from a mental disorder that causes an inability to retain self control.
Mr Wormleighton had two previous important relationships, and neither lady described him as aggressive or dominating, instead describing him as “compassion, giving, and a loveable rogue.”
It’s also stated that he told pals that Keating was a “nutter” but that the sex was “very amazing.”
Keating was characterised as ‘fun, charming, and compassionate,’ yet her behaviour was ‘over the top,’ and both of them used alcohol and cocaine and suffered from depression.
The trial is still ongoing.
