The officer shot in chase of an armed robbery suspect three days ago has died, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
As per accounts, Detective Cesar “Echy” Echaverry, 29, was shot by a suspect on Monday night in Miami. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where doctors and nurses tried to save his life.
Unfortunately, his wounds were too serious. Miami-Dade Police Director Freddy Ramirez verified Echaverry’s death in a tweet on Wednesday evening, saying he died after “a brief struggle.”

Officer Echaverry died in the line of duty while serving and defending our community, Ramirez stated in a tweet. The law enforcement team will stand by and assist the Echaverry family through this terrible time. Officer Echaverry’s bravery and sacrifice will be remembered forever.
Echaverry was a member of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Robbery Interventional Detail.
According to sources, he and other cops were pursuing a car engaged in an armed robbery when its driver stopped and attempted to leave on foot after hitting police vehicles and a civilian vehicle.
A shootout erupted, and suspect Jeremy Horton, 32, of Acworth, Georgia, was killed.
During the altercation, Detective Echaverry was shot in the head. His family had stayed in the hospital with him, hoping for a miracle.
According to accounts, a second suspect was traced down to the Miami Springs hotel and shot dead as well.
On Wednesday, law enforcement officials assembled at Jackson Memorial Hospital to express their support for Echaverry, a FIU graduate and bike aficionado.
Friends informed Miami Herald reporters that Detective Echaverry was going up in the department and was engaged to be married.
Cesar Echaverry, rest in peace. The brave men and women who serve as police officers earn far more recognition than they now receive.
