Man thought he won $600 in lottery but really won a lot more

A man from Virginia believed he had won $600 in a lotto scratch-off. In fact he won $1 million.

A Virginia guy thought he had won $600 in the state lottery, only to discover he had won $1 million.

Jose Flores Velasquez purchased a “20X the Money” scratch-off lottery ticket after work at a petrol station. According to the Virginia Lottery, he played the ticket and assumed he had won $600.

Velasquez proceeded to the customer care department of the Virginia Lottery to cash in the ticket. When he handed it over to lottery officials, they discovered it was worth the $1 million grand prize, according to the Virginia Lottery.

According to the Virginia Lottery, there are three $1 million winners in the scratch-off, and the odds of winning are around one in 1.754 million. Based on the lottery, Velasquez chose a one-time cash reward of $759,878, before taxes.

As per the lottery, the store where Velasquez purchased the winning ticket got a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

According to the lottery’s website, Velasquez hopes to use his riches to provide for his family and potentially establish his own business.

Jose Rolando Gramajo Rodas is another recent Virginia lottery winner who won more money than he expected after playing a scratch-off. Rodas won $200,000 in a different scratch-off game last week, according to the Virginia Lottery; he believed he had won $20,000.
