Alyssa Milano, the actress, has become an active campaigner on social media, and she frequently finds herself in the heart of a conflict. The former Who’s the Boss star also penned a book called Sorry, Not Sorry, in which she makes disparaging remarks about actress Rose McGowan.
Milano appeared to be referring to McGowan in an excerpt from her book when she said, There was once a rose in her life that she loved extremely deeply… Roses were her favorite flower when she was little, but she no longer plants them. She’s had far too many pricks. From 2001 through 2006, the actors, who both have a theatrical flair, played half-sisters Paige and Phoebe on the hit WB television series Charmed.
When Twitter user @Charmed Reunion shared the allegedly alluding to McGowan snippet, she responded in a tweet. “What a f***ing douche,” the Grindhouse star responded simply and bluntly. But that isn’t all. McGowan cited Alyssa Milano’s #MeToo advocacy, calling her a “f***ing fake.”
“There was once a rose in my life that I loved particularly strongly… Roses used to be my favorite flower, but I no longer grow them. I’ve been pricked too many times.”

McGowan spoke on Nightline in 2018 and was one of the first actors to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of rape. The #MeToo movement sprang from McGowan’s interview, which the actress has now disavowed, alleging it was co-opted by prominent people in Hollywood and Washington, D.C. for all the wrong purposes.
McGowan was skeptical of Milano’s #MeToo movement for 2 purposes. One, she is married to David Buguliari, a Creative Artists Agency employee who, according to McGowan, is “part of the pimp issue” of tolerating abusers in Hollywood. Second, McGowan slammed Milano’s support for Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, suggesting that they, too, were contributing to the issue.
In August of 2020, McGowan and Milano had a public spat when McGowan labeled the Who’s The Boss actress a ‘fake’ and blamed her for stealing the #MeToo movement by supporting the-presidential contender Joe Biden.
The actresses engaged in a heated Twitter debate, with McGown specifically criticizing the Democratic Party for doing little to aid ethnic groups and the poor. Although McGowan did not endorse Trump, she considered Milano’s support for Joe Biden and the Democrats as a betrayal, alleging they had co-opted the #MeToo movement.
McGowan launched a series of tweets stating that Milano defrauded the #MeToo movement’s originator, Tarana Burke, and that her diva-like conduct on the set of Charmed produced a “harmful” working atmosphere. She You stole #metoo from Tarana [Burke] (a fantastic communication tool, not a movement). She co-opted her Cultural Reset movement for fame, resentful of her exposing of her rapist. On Charmed, she made $250,000 every week, McGowan wrote.
McGowan wasn’t done slamming her ex-costar. She yelled in front of the staff, ‘They don’t pay me enough to do this garbage!’ On a daily basis, this is appalling conduct. Every time they were renewed, McGowan sobbed because her ex-costar made that set poisonous AF. “Now, get off my back, you f*cking fraud,” McGowan yelled. Milano was avidly campaigning for Joe Biden at the time, and she reacted to McGowan with a 26-tweet thread outlining Democrats’ accomplishments.
After Biden stated then-President Donald Trump had “cloaked America in darkness for far too long,” McGowan replied to Milano with a harsh personal critique of the Democrats. McGowan responded to social media, tagging her former co-star and writing, “You are the season of darkness @JoeBiden @dnc. You are monsters. You are a fraud. You are the lie,” she wrote. McGowan continued to blast Milano’s support for the Democrats.

McGowan seemed to be there to call out Milano at every step. It begs the question of whether there’s more to this Charmed conflict than meets the eye. Rose McGowan was one of the first women to come out and expose Harvey Weinstein, and when she watched the #MeToo movement devolve into something politicians exploited to cater to the public, she spoke up.
