Police subsequently identified a 20-year-old motorist who reportedly lost control of a vehicle that hit and killed a girl participating in a Christmas parade in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Saturday morning.
The vehicle was towing a float in the procession led by girls from the CC & Co. Dance Complex.
Landen Christopher Glass, 20, was recognized as the driver. He was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, being careless and reckless, using unsuitable equipment, moving in a hazardous manner, and carrying a handgun in a parade.
The females continued to dance, but soon separated as the vehicle passed through them. Beyond this group, there were additional dancers. They were all thinking whether it was part of the procession, the witness believed.
Witnesses say Glass was screaming that he couldn’t control the pickup before it crashed.
Another observer reported seeing the youngster on the ground with a blanket wrapped around her. At the moment of the collision, witnesses claim hearing tires screeching, yelling, and the vehicle’s horn blaring.
They started dancing in the procession, and then suddenly, they just heard a bunch of honking, said Olivia Bruce, 14, another parade participant.
And as they looked around, they saw the vehicle virtually on their backs, Bruce explained.
The victim’s identity has not been revealed.
