A 10-year-old boy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is being prosecuted as an adult after reportedly shooting and murdering his 44-year-old mom last week as she refused to purchase him an Amazon video game headset.
If convicted in the deadly shot, the youngster faces a first-degree murder charge and up to 60 years in jail. The youngster, who has mental health concerns, is being placed in juvenile jail, according to family members.
The shooting occurred at the boy’s house between 87th and Hemlock about 7 a.m. on Nov. 21.
According to cops, the youngster originally told authorities that he was playing with the pistol when it accidentally went off. His mom, Quiana Mann, was fatally shot in the head. Following the gunshot, the youngster awoke his sister, who saw their mother dead and dialed 911.
However, family members expressed “severe concerns” to authorities in the days following the killing.
According to a criminal complaint, the boy’s 26-year-old sister informed officers that he has had “anger problems” his whole life and five different imaginary persons that communicate to him. According to another family member, the child was abusive to animals and used to pull up the family puppy by the tail and swing the puppy about until it moaned and wailed in pain.
This is said to have happened when the youngster was four years old. According to family members, the youngster loaded a balloon with a flammable chemical and lit it on fire six months ago, producing an explosion that burnt furniture and a carpet.
According to the lawsuit, the youngster was sent to a therapist, who gave him a “worrisome diagnosis,” and his mom allegedly installed cameras inside the house to monitor him. Someone had disconnected these cameras two weeks before the homicide.
According to the sister, on the morning of their mom’s death, her brother got into their mom’s Amazon account and bought an Oculus virtual reality headset.
Anytime there’s violence in Milwaukee, if it’s done by someone as young as 10 or much older than that, it causes him pause, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said.
According to an aunt, the 10-year-old never sobbed or expressed regret for his mom’s death. According to the lawsuit, the youngster told his aunt that he was really aiming the pistol at his mother. The aunt stated he apologized for killing his mom the day after she died and then inquired whether his Amazon box had come.
The child reportedly acknowledged to cops that he acquired his mom’s gun since he was angry at her for waking him up at 6 a.m. and for preventing him from purchasing the virtual reality headset on Amazon.
According to the complaint, the kid informed officers the night before the shooting that he had grabbed the keys to his mother’s gun safe. He reportedly stated that he pointed the rifle at his mother and intended to shoot the wall in order to frighten her, but she stepped in front of him.
People suspected of crimes in Wisconsin may be charged as adults if they are 17 or older. It is extremely uncommon for someone younger than 17 to be tried as an adult, and it is nearly unheard of for a 10-year-old.
This is an unbelievable family tragedy, one of the boy’s attorneys, Angela Cunningham, said. Nobody would refute or disagree with that, in her opinion. The adult system is completely unprepared to meet the requirements of a 10-year-old child.
