After finishing her workout, Blythe Mason-Boyle, 24, took her keys and drove to the Energie Fitness parking lot in Birmingham, UK. What the lovely young lady didn’t realize was that the few seconds it took her to get to her car would affect her life forever.
As the young woman opened her Audi A1, she was accosted by Majid Ali, an 18-year-old armed with a hammer and a callous disdain for human life. The teen continued pounding his defenseless female victim in the head and face as she yelled out in despair, thinking solely of taking Mason-Boyle’s automobile.
Mason-Boyle was brought to the hospital for gashes to her face and head, as well as a cracked eye socket, only minutes after leaving the gym. Sadly, the young woman discovered that the strikes to her eye had rendered her half blind, maybe forever.
Luckily, authorities were able to track down Mason-Boyle’s stolen vehicle within 24 hours of the incident and identify Ali as the perpetrator. The bloodied hammer was found beneath his sofa-bed when a warrant was served at his residence. The case against him was then formed.
Ali denied robbery, possessing an offensive weapon, and injuring with intent accusations. Officers stated during Ali’s trial that he accepted no accountability for the serious injuries he inflicted on Mason-Boyle. Fortunately, when it came time for punishment, Birmingham Crown Court took his brutal approach into consideration.
Ali was found guilty and sentenced to 9 years in jail after showing “no regret.” Detective Constable Rebecca Woodcock stated that this was to “ensure he has time to think” on his conduct and, possibly, finally discover some remorse.
Mason-Boyle was ultimately awarded justice after nearly a year of investigations and judicial processes. Despite admitting that the ordeal has been the “toughest” moment of her life, she is pleased with the judge’s decision.
Mason-Boyle is still unable to see well due to her wounded eye. It is unknown whether she will ever fully recover her sight. Naturally, she has opted to seek counseling in order to recover from the trauma of the horrible attack and regain her ability to drive without fear. Considering her tragedy, she advised others to be mindful of their environment at all times.
Although Ali received a stiffer sentence than is customary in similar circumstances, it still pales in comparison to Mason-life Boyle’s term. She will have to deal with her trauma and potentially lifelong damage for the rest of her life.
Thankfully, the court considered the fact that this monster had no remorse for wounding an innocent young woman. Maybe, 9 years will be enough time for him to feel some sense of guilt.
