Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020, alleging “irreconcilable disagreements,” and the famous couple divorced in 2021.
Nevertheless, neither Kelly nor Brandon have been particularly honest about the road that led to their separation, leaving admirers worldwide to speculate precisely what had prompted them to fall out of love.
Clarkson, on the other hand, has gone on record to describe the choice that tore her apart, and her remarks are absolutely painful.
It’s not often that Grammy Award-winning vocalist Kelly Clarkson lets fans inside her personal life.
Yet that does happen from time to time.
Two years after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, whom she’d been married to since 2013, the Since U Been Gone singer has chosen to talk frankly about their public divorce, saying that it was a difficult choice for the couple.
During an interview on the IRL podcast, Clarkson was asked directly what divorce “does to you,” and her truthful answer is enough to bring a tear to the eye of anybody who can identify.
Whenever one falls in love with a person, it doesn’t work, it tears one apart, Clarkson said.
She believes the worst part about divorce — particularly having it publicized and people believing they know everything — is that it isn’t an instant choice.
Everyone who has been divorced understands that it took years to make, not make, it work – she never wanted to be a part of anything to ‘make it work.’
She wanted to make it beautiful, fantastic, everything it possibly could be, the 40-year-old said, and sometimes it just doesn’t occur.
Clarkson and Blackstock had a six-year relationship before becoming engaged in late 2012. They married in October 2013 and have 2 kids together, River, 8, and Remington, 6.
Kelly went on to discuss how the kids are coping with the reality that their parents are now divorced later in the IRL podcast.
Perhaps they’ll say, particularly in the last two years, and it will kill her, and she wants them to be honest, so she never says, ‘Oh god, don’t tell me that,’ but a lot of times it’ll be like, ‘You know, I’m just so sad, and I wish mommy and daddy were in the same home,’ she said.
They’re pretty honest about it; she is raising that sort of person.
Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce was completed in 2021, and it was revealed that the former would pay the latter $200,000 each month as part of the divorce process.
Many were taken aback by the sum, but with Clarkson apparently making $1,583,617 each month based on court filings, we believe it’s a financial burden she can easily bear.
Kelly is correct; it is never simple when love fades and relationships are severed. I’m simply relieved that both sides seem to be going on with their lives.
