Because of Katy Perry’s “mean and disrespectful” conduct, fans have vowed to boycott American Idol.
After scolding participants, the pop diva made quite a commotion for being more frigid than hot.
On the last episode of the singing competition, Carina DeAngelo and Nutsa Abuza had trouble with their duet, and the judge was very harsh with them.
As the two acknowledged clashing during rehearsals, the ‘One That Got Away’ singer proceeded to elicit additional information from them.
Carina reported that Nutsa preferred to sleep rather than stay up all night before the performance, to which Perry responded, “Maybe we should just let them sing.”
Lionel Richie commented after the performance that he must confess it was a bit… Nevertheless, before he could continue, Perry rushed in, calling the performance “underwhelming.”
She went on to say that she simply believed their energy was fractured between them and they couldn’t give each other the energy they both needed. That’s what they both deserved. She believes they are both better than that performance.
Carina was eventually kicked from the program, but Nutsa was given the opportunity to redeem herself during Showstoppers Week.
Viewers, on the other hand, were dissatisfied with Perry’s actions.
The singer was also chastised for a mother-shaming remark made by competitor Sarah Beth Liebe, a mother of three, during her audition: “If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out.”
Perry shot back: “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.”
Ouch.
When Liebe told the judges that she would be leaving the competition to spend time with her kids, Perry responded that she understood that life could be frightening. She also understands that it is simpler to walk away than to be rejected. But she also understands that Sara is not reaching her full potential. Remember that self-love is equally as important as maternal love. Do not abandon the competition.
After her comments, one viewer commented, “@katyperry mom shaming??? You, above all others, should get it. Appalling.”
“@katyperry as an artist,” said another. I adore you, yet you have a horrible attitude at times. Mom shaming Sara Beth was really impolite and uncalled for. You are a disgrace!!!!”
“American Idol judge Katy Perry may have crossed a line with her criticism of competitor Sara Beth Liebe, a 25-year-old mother of three,” a third stated.
