We’ve all learned that a Target run is never as straightforward as we hope. Initially, the Dollar Spot entices us. Then there’s the kids’ clothes department, followed by the Hearth & Hand exhibit, which makes us want to buy everything. The next thing you know, you’ve spent almost an hour and $200 for what was supposed to be a “short” trip inside.
That’s why folks were taken aback when they saw a mom’s Instagram post go viral after she admitted to leaving her baby in the vehicle while going inside Target. Fortunately, it soon became evident that the whole incident was not the result of a negligent mother but instead one huge funny prank.
Influencer Bonnie Engle uploaded the video in early March. It has now gone viral, with millions of views and over 1,000 comments.
In it, a camera zooms in on a handwritten placard posted inside a vehicle’s window. It says, “My baby is OK. He has his snacks and a drink! I’m in Target. Be back soon!”
At first glance, its message is enough to stop the heart. After all, there have been far too many heartbreaking reports of infants and toddlers being left in hot automobiles. Yet, thankfully, this was not that type of narrative.
When the camera pans away from the scribbled window sign, it becomes clear that Engle’s “baby” is actually her spouse.
“Please no judgement,” says Engle’s caption. “He is safe and well.”
Her spouse munches on popcorn in the driver’s seat. By all accounts, he seems to be content with his situation. (In other words, not fussing about how long it takes his wife to go to Target or how much money she spends.)
Many in the comments were glad to realize it was all a huge prank. In contrast to the alternative, which was a mother placing her infant in danger. Some were unable to stop giggling.
Engle, who has 114,000 Instagram followers, clearly understands her demographic.
She often uploads amusing sketches on the ups and downs of parenthood, which is presumably how she gained such a devoted following.
Most of her video is quite relevant, particularly for parents of three who continually feel like they’re running on empty.
Then there are the films she creates with her husband, which never fail to make marriage’s problems appear… well, rather funny at the end of the day.
