After six years of marriage, Holmes and Mission Impossible actor Tom Cruise divorced in a high-profile split in 2012.
After their divorce, the reasons for which became the subject of much conjecture, Holmes kept custody of the couple’s daughter, Suri, and has talked honestly about the fact that the now-sixteen-year-old has not been seen much over the years.
Holmes rose to fame at the age of 19 after winning a part in the adolescent drama Dawson’s Creek.
When they were doing Dawson’s Creek and it was successful, she really wanted to grow as an actor and not just do things to capitalize on the moment, Holmes said. She wished to be able to learn from other individuals.
However, the Batman Begins star’s career skyrocketed when she started dating Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise. After the couple had a daughter, Suri, media interest in their family peaked.
Indeed, the attention resulted in nearly daily fresh paparazzi photographs of Tom and Kate’s little daughter appearing. In reaction, Katie stepped away from the spotlight in order to preserve her daughter’s reputation, starting on a work break that ended in 2011.
As previously noted, Tom and Katie divorced in 2012, five years after marrying in an Italian wedding.
Given that they were one of the world’s most famous couples, it’s hardly surprising that the rumor mill went into overdrive. The reason for their breakup was widely speculated, with Holmes supposed to be distrustful of the Church of Scientology.
Katie did, in fact, file for divorce from Tom in New York. According to reports, she did this to improve her chances of obtaining sole custody of Suri, since the state hates granting warring parents shared custody.
When Holmes was granted exclusive custody of Suri, she was able to keep the youngster away from Scientology. Because Tom was said to have anticipated the divorce, he was unable to control the narrative, as he was accused of doing during his divorce from Nicole Kidman.
In any event, Holmes’ urge to protect her kid is still present now.
The 44-year-old actress revealed ahead of the premiere of her new film, Rare Objects, that since her daughter was so visible at such a young age, it’s been extremely significant for her to protect her. She is grateful to be a mom, to be her mother. She’s a wonderful individual.
It was just last month that it was revealed that Tom Cruise’s connection with his daughter is nonexistent. It was reported that the 60-year-old Top Gun actor is no longer in Suri’s life and hasn’t seen her in years.
