Sheryl Crow was surrounded by her biggest admirers as she marked a key career milestone.
The 61-year-old singer-songwriter was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Her two boys, Wyatt, 16, and Levi, 13, made a rare red carpet appearance to back her on the occasion.
The youngsters appeared like adults as they posed for photographs with their renowned mother, who was dressed smartly in traditional black suits, white button-up shirts, and shoes. Crow looked stunning in a black one-shoulder dress with a cut-out accent at the hip.
The “Soak Up the Sun” singer was honored with Missy Elliott, Chaka Khan, and Willie Nelson, among others. She began the ceremony with a duet of her 1996 hit “If It Makes You Happy” with Olivia Rodrigo and was subsequently introduced by her friend Laura Dern.
Crow adopted Wyatt as a newborn in 2007, then Levi in 2010. In 2017, she stated that being their mother outweighed all of her previous accomplishments. “Adopting my boys—that’s just been the biggest everlasting event that has informed everything—and really for the better,” she remarked at the time.
She also feels the three were destined to form a family. “God put us together.” “They know how lucky I am to be their mommy,” she said of her children.
Crow confirmed earlier this year that both of her boys have musical skills like their mother; however, they have no plans to follow in her footsteps for the time being. Nonetheless, she ensures that kids attend their music classes on a regular basis.
She is not sure either of them wishes to do that, but they’re both musical, and she is one of those annoying parents who says, ”You have to take piano. Do not argue with me about it,” she told in February at the MusiCares 2023 Persons of the Year Gala.
Nevertheless, her 15-year-old has a great ear and can play really well, Wyatt said. She thinks he’ll always tinker, but he wants to be a marine biologist, and she is not sure how to compete with that since it’s such a thing—she is not even sure what they do. So she is glad he’s going to safeguard the reefs. That’s exactly what he intends to accomplish.
Crow stated that she likes exposing her boys to a variety of musical styles, including Motown classics. “They’re just like, ‘Mom, what is this old music?’ But they go around humming and singing it. My 15-year-old is always like, ‘I got sunshine…'” she explained earlier this year.
She thinks she is doing the right thing. She grew up with it, and her 15-year-old son is a fantastic bassist who is learning James Jamerson just like she did.
Crow recently confessed that she has a new album ready for release that hasn’t been formally announced, after previously announcing that Threads would be her last. She teased further details about the project at the Hall of Fame event on Friday night.
She said that she was really looking forward to it. She said she’d never make another record again and ended up with a bunch of songs that she simply desired to put out, adding that she didn’t want to work on the album alone, so she enlisted the help of her producer buddy Mike Elizondo.
Crow added that it was absolutely like hiring the best film director in the world. He just made these amazing small films, one after the other. It’s all stuff that she thinks is really relevant to what’s going on right now. The whole thing started with a song about artificial intelligence, and the album is called Evolution, which is about that.
She added that she hopes individuals enjoy it. She really likes it.
