Ever walk onto a plane and pass a parent with a young baby? Were your first thoughts “Oh yes! A cute little baby….” Uhhh, probably not. Most people dread the sight of a baby on a plane for the sheer fact that babies tend to whine and fuss and disturb the living daylights out of you. And for heaven’s sake… there’s no escape! Admit it… you’re one of those people aren’t you. But that’s ok. It’s normal to be selfishly concerned about it.
One mother had to take her baby on a 10-hour flight from South Korea to California. When she boarded the flight with her 4-month-old baby in her arms, she could see the anguish in all the other passengers’ faces. They couldn’t hide it, although they tried. But their true feelings about it crept through. The mother just knew that was going to be the sentiment of most all of them, so she prepared for it.
After taking her seat, she reached into her purse and pulled out a container filled with little plastic bags. She got up and started handing out those plastic bags to every single passenger in her area of the plane. Well, all the passengers were quite dismayed by this. Then, they opened up the bag and, among other items, found a note inside.
The note read: “Hello. I’m Junwoo and I’m 4 months old. Today, I am going to the U.S. with my mom and grandmom to see my aunt. I’m a little bit nervous and scared because it’s my first flight, which means that I may cry or make too much noise. I will try to go quietly, though I can’t make any promises. Please excuse me. So my mom prepared a little goodie bag for you. It has some candies and earplugs. Please use when it’s too noisy because of me. Enjoy your trip. Thank you.”
And the mother ended it with a smiley face. And every passenger thought the mother’s gesture was extremely thoughtful.
At one point during the flight, she got up to change her son’s diaper and all the passengers smiled at her and gave her a thumbs up. And the baby’s noise level over the long trip? Barely even a gurgle. How considerate of others, who were completely taken by the consideration of his mother.
