What goes around eventually comes around. Britney Spears appears to have called out Kelly Clarkson for statements she made about her back in 2007.
“‘I never forget,’… Don’t you wish she’d just declare she’s joking? Clarkson… In a society where bullying is painful, I’ve seen my fair share…. Can we get an AWW here? Psss … I’m not joking… “Come on, pals, come on!!!” Spears, 40, posted an Instagram video of herself dancing to Bazzi’s “Mine” on Wednesday, June 8.
Clarkson, 40, was mentioned in the “Womanizer” singer’s name drop, which appeared to relate to a 2007 interview the “Since U Been Gone” singer performed for radio station Q100. Spears had recently released her album Blackout and was in the midst of a highly publicised divorce with Kevin Federline at the time. Clarkson joked on the radio that it would be “hilarious” if the pop diva seemed to be struggling to market her record.
“Man, but wouldn’t it be great if she’s just just messing with everyone?” said the talk show host, who was 25 at the time. “Because it’d be so funny if she was like, ‘just kidding!'” she added. I mean, consider it. She hasn’t done any publicity for her record, which I like… She hasn’t done any publicity, but she receives a lot of attention because of everything else.”
Clarkson is not the only pop icon Spears has chastised since her 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021; the “Toxic” singer also chastised Christina Aguilera for neglecting to speak up on her behalf. Spears released a video of Aguilera speaking to reporters at the Latin Grammys on her Instagram Story the same month her conservatorship ended. In the video, a publicist abruptly ends an interview with the “Ain’t No Other Man” singer when a journalist inquired whether she had talked to Spears since the verdict.

“We’re not doing that,” Aguilera remarked, adding, “But I’m incredibly pleased for her!” Spears commented with the video that she appreciates and cherishes all who support her. But refusing to speak when you know the reality is the same as lying!!!! 13 years in a dishonest and violent system, yet why is it such a difficult issue for people to discuss? She was the one who had to go through it!!!! Thank you to everyone who spoke up and supported her.
Five months earlier, in June 2021, Aguilera tweeted her solidarity for Spears. She has been thinking about Britney and all she’s gone through the last several days. It is intolerable that any woman, or person, who wants to be in charge of their own fate may be denied the right to live their lives as they desire, she wrote at the time.
The “Genie in a Bottle” singer expressed that to be hushed, neglected, harassed, or refused assistance by those ‘near’ to you is the most draining, demoralising, and insulting thing conceivable. The mental and emotional toll this may have on a human soul is not to be underestimated.
