Story by Tara McCallan
The cards & breakfast & all the love yesterday was lovely of course. But, what made my heart absolutely burst as a mom, happened before I even got up.
Pip is an early riser. And escape artist. We have baby monitors on her & a clock that turns colours letting her know it’s time to get up. But, I’d give her a solid D+ for effort. Girl likes to get up & find me.
Yesterday, however as I was about to spring from my bed to take her back to hers. I saw my oldest son enter her room. Take her hand & say, “Let’s let Mom sleep.” He then got into her little single bed beside her. And cuddled & whispered with her till it was time to rise.
The cards & breakfast & all the love yesterday was lovely of course. But, what made my heart absolutely burst as a mom, happened before I even got up. Pip is an early riser. And escape artist. We have baby monitors on her & a clock that turns colours letting her know it's time to get up. But, I'd give her a solid D+ for effort. Girl likes to get up & find me. Yesterday, however as I was about to spring from my bed to take her back to hers. I saw my oldest son enter her room. Take her hand & say, "Let's let Mom sleep." He then got into her little single bed beside her. And cuddled & whispered with her till it was time to rise. And two things unfolded in that moment for me. First of course, that my son was sweet enough to think of me & did that. But, even more importantly, that I got a small glimpse into how he would care for her when no one was looking. How tender he was, cause hours later he'd drop kick her wrestling in the backyard. As a parent of a child with special needs, it's beyond scary to think what would happen to your child if you or your partner weren't around. But, seeing my boys in moments they don't know I'm watching, care for her. Does me right in… #BeStillMyHeart #LifeOfASpecialNeedsMom #BoyMom #SheDroppedKickedHimRightBack #LifeWithPip #downsyndromeawareness #mommahood #happysoulproject
