Bruce Willis’ close bond with his ex-wife Demi Moore has been emphasized in his family’s joint declaration about his brain disorder, which she co-signed alongside with his wife Emma Heming Willis and all five of his children.
The family announced through a social media post that the 67-year-old actor was retiring from acting after being identified with aphasia, a disorder caused by brain damage that disturbs one’s ability to speak, write, and recognize language.
The family wrote as they wanted to share that their dearly loved Bruce has been undergoing some health problems and has of late been identified with aphasia which is impacting his mental capabilities. They wrote that as an outcome of this and with much deliberation, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him. They further wrote that this is a certainly challenging time for the family and they are so grateful of everyone’s continued love, compassion and support.
The family added that they are moving through this as a strong family unit and wanted to bring Bruce’s fans in because they know how much he means to his fans as they do to him. They supplemented that as Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together they plan to do just that.

According to the National Aphasia Association, Aphasia in a damage of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. It is always due to injury to the brain, most usually from a stroke, predominantly in older individuals. Head trauma, brain tumors or infections can also cause aphasia.
Willis’ family did not share what directed to his diagnosis but their memo of unity during this tough time is a token of his tight-knit association with Moore. The past couple met at the Los Angeles premiere of the 1987 action comedy Stakeout, which starred actor Emilio Estevez, Moore’s then-fiancé.
The actress was previously married to singer Freddy Moore from 1981 to 1985 and started dating Willis shortly after her split from Estevez. After just three months together, they wed in Las Vegas on November 21, 1987.
Their eldest daughter, Rumer, was born in 1988, followed by Scout in 1991 and Tallulah in 1994.
Willis and Moore pronounced their split in 1998 after a decade of marriage and their separation was settled in 2000. That same year, Willis opened up about their lasting friendship and devotion to co-parenting.
Willis told to Rolling Stone that he still loves Demi and that they are close. He said that they have three children whom they will continue to raise together and they are probably as close now as they never were. Willis added that they realize that they have a lifelong commitment to their kids and their friendship continues.
Moore married actor Ashton Kutcher in 2005 and Willis became friends with his ex-wife’s third husband, even though they both acknowledged it was an adjustment at first.
Willis, who continued single for a decade after his separation, attributed his friend Will Smith with assisting him to get over his possessiveness when Moore and Kutcher started dating in 2003.
In 2009, Willis married Heming Willis, an English model and actress with Moore and Kutcher among their wedding guests.
Willis said of their combined family that they have become like a tribe. Heming Willis added that she met Moore and Kutcher early on, saying she was really blessed because from day one it’s been comfortable and fun.
The Unbreakable star noted that people are repeatedly puzzled by his friendship with Moore, whom he said he still loves. Willis said that it has created a lot of attention because everyone can understand anger and jealousy in the breakup of a marriage, but they don’t appreciate how he can get along with his ex like that. He further added that Demi and he made a choice to put the kids first and they are really lucky that it turns out we all have fun together.
Moore, who is 15 years elder than Kutcher, split with the actor in 2011 and they completed their divorce in 2013. Meanwhile, Willis and Heming Willis went on to welcome their daughter Mabel in 2012. Two years later, they had Evelyn.
During a conversation in March 2015, Rumer admired her parents for getting along and making it a point to continue a family after they separated and married other people. She said that they always made an effort to do all of the family events still together and made such an effort to still have their family be as one unit as opposed to two separate things, which she think really made an impact.
In 2020, Willis and Moore made captions after they finished four weeks in quarantine with their daughters, two of their daughters’ boyfriends and her assistant in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. The actor’s wife and two youngest daughters were not with them but Scout later explained that there was a modest clarification for their absenteeism.
Earlier this month, Moore wished Willis a happy birthday in an Instagram post, sharing a photo of them standing in the kitchen. She wrote – ‘Happy birthday Bruce! Thankful for our combined family!
That same weekend, Heming Willis posted a compliment to her husband of 13 years in admiration of their anniversary. She shared a photo of them at their 2009 wedding, writing: ’13 years ago, those wedding speeches really sent us over the edge.
Heming Willis also posted her own birthday compliment to her husband with a photo assortment that she created. She shared that she do not just love Willis, she really like him.
