Djimon Hounsou feels ‘tremendously cheated’ by Hollywood’s treatment

Djimon Hounsou, the actor from “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” recently spoke out about the struggles of Hollywood life, despite his long and successful career. Hounsou shared that he felt slighted by Hollywood pay and was continuously disrespected. He revealed that he had to fight for the paycheck he felt he deserved, saying that he always had to prove why he needed to be paid. He also expressed his frustration with the limited roles for Black actors, having portrayed a slave three times within a five-year span.

Hounsou felt that he received no support from anybody for his performances and emphasized how unfair it was that he was overlooked for an Oscar nomination in the past. Despite this, he enjoyed working on the “Shazam!” sequel and believes that Hollywood is slowly but surely giving him a chance, hoping for more screen time in bigger productions.

Throughout his career, Hounsou has starred in various action-packed movies such as “Gladiator,” “Furious 7,” “Tomb Raider,” and “Aquaman.” However, he emphasized that the DC universe has shown him a level of respect that he has not experienced before. He hopes for more opportunities in the future and is determined to prove himself as a talented and deserving actor.
