A little kitten was taken to the veterinarian after it was found in a cardboard box on the porch of one of the veterinarian’s clients. And it had the biggest eyes, which, of course, made it adorable, and everyone there just fell in love.
It had a wound to its neck that had to be treated. The veterinarian took the little guy home to care for him as he healed. He weighed just over a pound and was playful and feisty. He soon became a permanent member of the family.
They named him Porg. But Porg was not a normal cat, even aside from his big, glassy eyes and his smaller than normal lower jaw. He would tear his skin every time he scratched his neck, and that was not a normal thing at all for a cat.
When the veterinarian did a biopsy on his skin, she discovered Porg had a hereditary collagen defect, which made him extremely fragile. Kittens with this rare defect are known as “glass kittens.”
The family does the best it can to keep Porg’s skin safe and healthy. Special clothing for him helps immensely with that. They also give him eyedrops everyday to help with a lens issue in his eyes. And each member of the family has formed a very special bond with the kitty. And that alone goes a long way in keeping this kitten very happy.
