Actress Farrah Fawcett passed away, leaving O’Neal in deep despair. Farrah died before her and Ryan O’Neal’s future could unite in marriage.
O’Neal saw the gorgeous actress when she was still wedded to actor Lee Majors. O’Neal was invited to the duo’s house by Majors during their preliminary meeting. While spending some period with the couple, O’Neal understood that they were not happy together and moreover, they had by now decided to separate.
After some time, Majors said O’Neal that he should take Fawcett out for a meal, which he firstly declined. But things transformed rapidly and O’Neal then invited Fawcett to a Ry Cooder’s show after knowing how much she respected Ry.
Fawcett who was still lawfully wedded to Majors told her partner about O’Neal’s invitation. Though, Majors was not too pleased about it and he cautioned her against going but the she preferred to go anyhow.
In spite of their nuptial hitting rock bottom, Majors was envious of Fawcett hanging out with O’Neal and he said O’Neal to stay away from Fawcett. But that did not alter O’Neal’s emotions for Fawcett and he gathered the valor to admit his love for her.
Fawcett parted away from Majors soon after and the love tale of Fawcett and O’Neal started. The duo was intensely in love with each other and O’Neal respected her and constantly made her feel special.
However, their association hit a slippery slope in 1997 when Fawcett caught O’Neal in bed with actress Leslie Ann Stefanson.
But then again in a rotation of events, they renewed their association. O’Neal was detected with leukemia in 2001 and Fawcett sought to stand by his side. She looked after him but their lives changed once again. In 2006, she was detected with anal cancer.
Fawcett’s ailment took a toll on O’Neal and he was concerned and felt deserted. He sat by Fawcett’s side. Her associate, Alana Stewart shared that the two of them had a profound tie and deep love. Alana said that no matter what they went through, O’Neal was the one she sought by her side.
The duo had not ever considered marriage in spite of having a son together. But when Fawcett fell ill, O’Neal altered his mind. He proposed and asked her to marry him. Fawcett could not be happier and eagerly accepted the proposal.
Unfortunately, just a few weeks earlier they could have married, Fawcett died on 25 June 2009.
O’Neal wrote in his 2012 book Both of Us: My Life with Farrah, that the priest at St. John’s Hospital reaches to marry them but manages the last rites in its place. He also wrote that he feels sad for not being much nicer and more kind while Fawcett was around.
