Students who do not identify with their biological gender will be asked to leave a private Christian school in Florida.
A Catholic school in Florida announced that it will only identify to kids by the gender assigned at birth, and that students who are gay, transgender, or gender nonconforming will be expelled immediately. They believe that God created people in His image: male (man) and female (woman), sexually diverse but with equal dignity, Grace Christian School stated in an email addressed to the school community in June.
The email was written by the school’s pastor and administrator, Barry McKeen, who confirmed the school’s position in a video message on Thursday following the publication of the piece.
They’ve had these regulations in their school since day one. Practically every Christian school has one, McKeen explained. He is not sure why they were picked for this experience; they weren’t searching for this attention, but he is also not going to run away from it, and is not going to back down. McKeen stated that the policy was not new and that the email notified parents of it.
The email, headlined “Important School Policy Point of Emphasis…. Please Read,” said that parents must agree to all regulations and procedures before their youngster may begin school in August.
McKeen remarked, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He doesn’t answer to NBC, and he doesn’t answer to the local press. He doesn’t respond to bloggers or TikTok users. He denied saying that LGBT individuals are headed to hell.

McKeen stated that only once have the school and the parent of an LGBT+ kid “came to an arrangement” for the student to move schools. He also said that the topic of NCAA swimmer Lia Thomas had come up in class because “it shouldn’t be that way.”
The mother of a homosexual kid who used to attend Grace Christian School stated that she had opted to transfer her to a different school due to fears that the policy would harm her self-esteem. It’s not like her daughter walks around with rainbow flags or anything, the mother explained to the site. However, she is not going to make her feel bad about herself for whatever reason.
According to the anonymous mom, the policy is not new based on what she has read, but she was ignorant of it until today. She informed the publication that she had sent all of her kids to Grace Christian, but that she would not send her youngest daughter back for her junior year. She was afraid she’d open her mouth and expose herself… now she’s no longer afraid, the mother stated.
McKeen later emphasized that the ban pertains to any student who engages in sexual conduct outside of marriage. They don’t anticipate any of our non-married kids to be sexual, whether bisexual, heterosexual, or gay, McKeen said on Sunday. He remind folks that if a youngster walked in and said that he was having sex with his girlfriend, that student would be dismissed as well.
Twitter users reacted quickly to the news, calling out the school and pointing out that phrases like “gay lifestyle” are still used today, and LGBTQ+ persons are still not accepted. The users also criticized the government, stating that although it is OK for a private school to create its own policies, it is completely inappropriate for a school that receives government financing.
