He would be so proud.
When you love somebody, the idea of others picking on them or inadvertently causing them pain just doesn’t sit well with you.
It’s why parents take such a firm stand when their kids are bullied, and why youngsters frequently protect siblings.

However, it’s safe to assume that few individuals have ever had to protect their own dads from bullying. Richie Ann Castillo, a young woman from Cebu City, Philippines, understands precisely how that feels.
Castillo’s June Facebook post, intended to celebrate her dad’s 50th birthday, went viral, both for the sincerest gratitude of her words and for the reality that she stood up to all the bullies who have tried to bring her down over the years.
Castillo’s father has Down’s syndrome, which means he’s had to struggle with a slew of challenges over the years, both medically and in terms of how he’s seen by society.
Dear, Dad. Today marks a very special and very miraculous moment of your life. You turn 50 today and I am so blessed…

Castillo penned “Dear, Dad today is a very significant and remarkable day in his life. He has turned 50 today, and she is so grateful that he is still living such a long and lovely life. It continues to astound doctors!
She knows he won’t be able to see this since she is not sure if he has Facebook, but she wants the entire world to understand how proud she is to call him her father. She wants the entire world to see how stunning he is on the inside and out.
Castillo continued to describe how she has been attacked due to her father’s health throughout the years. She was teased and bullied as a child, and she confessed to feeling humiliated when she reached a particular age and tried to separate herself from her father to avoid the bullying.

Castillo, on the other hand, is an adult who understands better. She wants everyone to understand that she is extremely proud of her father.
She realized this later on, and it turned her into a coward. But her father deserves better than a cowardly daughter like her. He, like any other person with Down syndrome, deserves compassion, tolerance, kindness, and support. She is writing yhim a birthday message since she’s never done it before. He is deserving of so much more.

Dad, no amount of words can express how sorry she is for being an absent daughter, she concluded. She apologizes for not taking him to the beach more often, or for not bringing him his favorite dimsum [sic] cuisine, or for not seeing him more frequently than she should. If there’s one thing she repents, it’s keeping him out of her life as she is still that young kid who was frightened of being bullied. But she loves him more than he knows, and he inspires her every day.
Undoubtedly, Castillo’s words went viral on social media, where they were shared 67,000 times in a matter of days. The world praised Castillo for her candor, telling her that she was doing the correct thing.
We couldn’t be more proud of you, Richie Ann, and we’re sure your father is as well!
Every day, many people are born with conditions that set them apart from the usual. These folks are no different than the rest of us, and they need the same respect and affection that we all do.
