Do you believe you’d turn in a large sum of money if you came upon it? Most of us would answer “certainly,” but not all would.
One Goodwill employee found herself in a similar scenario and was compelled to make a large financial decision.
Everything started when the new employee was looking through some donated sweaters. Andrea Lessing had been on the job for about a month and a half and was already unsurprised by some of the information she discovered.
People give a wide range of items to Goodwill, and not always remember to empty their wallets or handbags before giving them over.
It turns out that people can also “give” their money inadvertently.
Andrea sensed something weighty while looking through a few sweatshirts.
She initially assumed it was a stack of books, but soon noticed it was something far more important.
She discovered piles of envelopes packed with $100 cash wrapped inside the sweaters.
When everything was added together, the money was worth $42,000. And, no, the money was not a forgery. It was really genuine!

The staff were able to track the money back to its rightful owner thanks to identifying paperwork left with the knitwear.

Andrea knew it was a no-brainer to return the money. Nonetheless, she was rewarded for doing the correct thing.
She believes in karma and wishes to do everything she can to spread positive energy. She also claims that doing the right thing for her daughter and being the greatest mother can inspire her.
Andrea was given $1,000 by the owner when she returned the money and tracked them down. They were quite grateful for her generosity, and it appears that Andrea received her karma!
As she was receiving her prize money, her supervisor, the Vice President of Donated Goods, stated to her that thank you for what she is doing, for her honesty, and for truly embodying their ideals. Thank you very much.
Andrea said that the money will be used to assist her kid throw a wonderful birthday celebration.
What would you do if you found $42,000? Our new store associate Andrea was in that predicament two weeks ago when she…
