Hero doctor gave his life trying to wrestle gun away from mass shooter in church

Every day, individuals undertake heroic acts, going above and beyond the call of duty. Dr. John Cheng is another of these unsung heroes who gave his life to ensure the safety of others.

John Cheng was a cherished member of the community, as well as a dad of two. A terrible incident at Laguna Woods Church in Orange County took the life of a man who is now being hailed as a hero. John Cheng, a 52-year-old physician, gave his life to rescue many others, according to officials.

The shooting killed one person and wounded five others. Four males, ages 66, 92, 82, and 75, as well as an 86-year-old woman, were among the injured.

Cheng was notable and well-liked in his neighborhood. The Laguna Niguel-based doctor specialized in sports medicine and was an active member of his community.

Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes has dubbed the late Cheng a hero for his daring deeds leading up to his death.

When the shooting began, John Cheng charged at the attacker boldly, permitting others to seek shelter.

The Sheriff’s department informed the reporters that there is no doubt that there would have been several further victims if Cheng had not acted. Cheng’s bold deeds were witnessed by a large number of people.

Don Barnes told the reporters, this was a politically driven hate event, a grudge that this man had between himself and the Taiwanese community.

David Chou, the detained suspected shooter, is now facing one felony count of murder and five felony charges of attempted murder.

According to Kristi Johnson, a representative for the FBI’s Los Angeles office, the gunman was driven by “some form of hatred.”

Cheng, one of the church’s younger members, valiantly attempted to incapacitate the gunman. According to Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer, Cheng tried everything he could to cripple the aggressor.

According to authorities, the doors of the church were sealed and nailed shut, indicating that the gunman did not want anyone to escape. The shot was painstakingly organized.

The gunman intended to shoot Cheng again after the initial shot, however his firearm jammed, blocking him from doing so.

“He sacrificed himself so that others may survive,” stated District Attorney Todd Spitzer of Cheng’s deeds.

His town will mourn the death of the late physician, as will his family. John Cheng is survived by his wife and two children.

Ordinary people’s heroic deeds are inspirational. While John Cheng’s death is tragic, his courageous deeds leading up to his murder demonstrate the man’s character.

May Dr. John Cheng’s soul rest in peace. Hoping his family and friends the best at this difficult time.
