Malcolm Connolly, Johnny Depp’s bodyguard, asserted on Thursday in the actor’s continuing defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.
Connolly worked for Depp during his relationship with Heard, claiming that everything between them was “lovey-dovey” and “wonderful” at first. Heard was “beautiful, enchanting, like she normally is,” he said, until things “began to change.” Amber began to change. Amber began to become more fiery and demanding. He stated that he could tell Amber wanted to wear the pants in this relationship, that was very evident. He further added that the actress could turn a little frigid at the drop of a hat. Depp, according to Connolly, was also “becoming quieter.”
He claimed he frequently heard Amber “shouting,” however he never saw any physical violence between them. Connolly went on to say that he believes Heard hurled objects at Depp, including a lighter and a soft drink can.

However he didn’t see anything physical, he did detect bruises on Depp but not on Heard. It started with maybe a scratch every now and again, but it grew worse. Connolly stated that most of these scars, most of these things would be on the left side of his face, scratches on his neck, maybe a fat lip in the corner, maybe a bruise in the eye socket. It’s all about the effects. It was becoming increasingly frequent. It wasn’t every week, but it was occurring.
Connolly then showed a picture from the couple’s honeymoon in which he felt he could detect traces of “swelling” beneath the actor’s left eye. “What do I make of that? He’s either walked into a door or the door has walked into him “He remarked. While Connolly said the honeymoon started off well, he began to suspect Johnny was “not enjoying” himself after a few days. When asked about Depp’s drug usage, Connolly stated that he had seen the actor smoking marijuana and assumed he would take cocaine when he sneaked off to the restroom. He stated that Depp has an “extremely high tolerance for any substances,” before adding, “I think Jack Sparrow is more inebriated than Johnny Depp, to be honest.” He also said that Depp’s wine intake had “fallen considerably” in recent years, yet that he had never been “drunk” previously.
Connolly also explained walking into pure “chaos” in Australia, following the infamous Incident in which, as the bodyguard put it, “Johnny lost a finger.” He said Depp was already “nursing one hand” when he arrived, while Amber was “furious.” After attempting to remove Depp from the circumstance and taking him downstairs, he said Heard “appears from somewhere and she’s screaming, berating him, ‘and calling him a coward.
After removing Depp from the confrontation, the actor began washing his hands, and according to Connolly, “it’s a disaster.” Before Dr. Kipper came and told them they needed to get to the hospital, he compared it to “one of those cartoon exploding cigars,” stating he could even see bone. He claimed that he didn’t see any wounds on Heard before Depp’s lawyers finished interrogating the witness.
Connolly said under cross-examination that he was still hired by Depp and was “loyal” to him as an employee. He was then quizzed about the event when he arrived in Australia and if he remembered Depp trying “to pee in the lobby” with “his penis out of his pants.” Conolly answered he would have remembered if he had seen Mr. Depp’s penis, as Depp began to laugh.
After that, audio from Australia was played in which Depp was heard yelling at someone probably Heard ”what you are and who you are and you have made me sick of myself!”
Depp is demanding $50 million in damages after Heard alleged in an op-ed in the Washington Post in 2018 that she was a survivor of domestic violence. While she did not identify Depp in the article, his attorneys claim it was supposed to be about him and harmed his profession. Depp was countersued for $100 million.
The actor already lost a case in the United Kingdom over the identical piece that was published in The Sun. The six-week experiment is scheduled to run six weeks.
