Kelly Ripa has always been quite honest about her sex life, sometimes comically so. Nevertheless, in her latest book, she discusses a terrifying episode involving sex with her husband, Mark Consuelos.
Kelly discusses the terrifying occurrence in her book, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories. That occurred approximately six months after the birth of their first child in 1998, she says.
Kelly became totally asleep while they were having sex. That was certainly a scary time for her and her spouse.
Kelly awoke in the emergency room, which was the next thing she remembered. Although it was unclear why she passed out, physicians informed her she had two ovarian cysts. Her gaze alternates between the hazy pictures on the TV, the remains of her ovarian tormentor, and Mark contentedly eating, she says.
She goes on to discuss how the experience affected her. She believes sex can be so horrific, and yet one of them is utterly unafraid, she says. He’s cheerfully snacking on saltines and ordering a second glass of apple juice. Mark may be at the movies or at the spa. Rather, she is lying on her back, waiting for the other two cysts to explode.
Obviously, Kelly is exaggerating the matter. But it had to be terrifying. She also makes light of another terrible realization: the clothing her husband had dressed her in before driving her to the hospital. Looking down, she saw she was dressed in a 1980s French-cut leotard, huge track trousers, and “f—k me” Manolo Blahniks.
Plus, here is my husband, who is, dare she say, trendy and well-dressed all the time, and yet he dressed her like a dime-store prostit*te in her hour of need, Kelly writes. It still baffles her that this is the greatest outfit for the day that he could find for her, to the point where she believes she is dreaming; she was having a nightmare while she was on the stretcher. She didn’t know she’d arrived.
Kelly and Mark seem to have a fantastic connection. They have been together for 26 years. In her new book, the talk show host thanks Mark for enabling her to write freely.
She expressed her belief that he found these private times fascinating. At the end of the day, she doubts he’d be in this marriage if he didn’t find her fascinating.
