Madonna wasted no time in replying to those who attacked and ridiculed her appearance at the 2023 Grammys.
The music diva wrote a long message on social media, blaming the criticism of her appearance on the ageism and sexism that pervades the society one live in.
Madonna, 64, welcomed Sam Smith and Kim Petras before their Grammy-winning performance of “Unholy.”
Although the spotlight should have been on the artists, notably Petras, the first transgender woman to take the stage at the Grammys, many people were preoccupied by Madonna’s appearance.
She wrote that rather than concentrating on what she said in her speech—giving appreciation for the boldness of artists like Sam and Kim—many people decided to only speak about close-up images of her taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer that would distort anyone’s face.
Madonna went on to say that the culture fails to honor women over the age of 45, and feels compelled to penalize her if she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working, and adventurous.
This isn’t the first time people have raised worry over Madonna’s appearance.
Last year, the superstar posted multiple videos on social media that sparked similar concern among her followers.
@madonna ♬ sincere apologies x – Pasha Grozdov
Madonna has never apologized for any of the artistic decisions she has made during her career, and she has said that she has no plans to do so in the near future.
It seems that no one is going to tell Madonna what to do.
I believe Madonna has a valid argument. No one has the right to tell another person how they should dress or appear; however, do you believe they should be able to voice their worries about their appearance?
