It was a fortuitous excursion to a Miami bar while filming a movie that brought Hollywood actor Matt Damon into contact with his now wife Lucy Damon.
The actor is regarded as one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors, having made his film debut in 1988 opposite Julia Roberts in Mystic Pizza, and nine years later he and Ben Affleck wrote and acted in Good Will Hunting, which earned them both an Oscar for Best Screenplay.
Damon has now won two Golden Globes, six Screen Actors Guild Awards, three BAFTA Award nominations, and seven Primetime Emmy nominations.
Despite his film achievements, he feels himself most lucky to have met Luciana Barroso, his now 17-year wife, stating he “struck the jackpot” when he met her.
He is so pleased and so fortunate. With his wife, he hit the jackpot, he told Ellen.
The 51-year-old was in Miami filming the film Stuck on You when he was asked if he wished to go to a club after a hard day of work.
They were meant to film in Hawaii, but the film was shifted to Miami. He’d never really hung out in Miami until one night during the shoot when a couple of the guys said they were going to get a beer somewhere and he said he is not really interested, yet they dragged him along and they ended up in a bar where his wife was a bartender and he literally saw her across a crowded room, he told Ellen.
In a rare interview, Luciana, who was a single mother to her four-year-old daughter at the time, also remembered the moment she met the actor.
But he began becoming noticed and people began asking for photographs and signatures, she recalled of her first meeting with her now spouse.
And then things became a little hostile since individuals were drinking and whatnot, so he came and hid behind her bar… wanting to just hang out back there and drink something. “Oh, I saw you and I really wanted to chat to you,” he adds.
So she put him to work alongside her. If he is going to be back here, one can’t simply stand there, she exclaimed. He had previously trained as a bartender for a film, so he began mixing cocktails. That night, he made her a fortune in tips since, of course, all wanted to see him. As a result, it turned out to be a really enjoyable evening.
Damon, unlike most guys, was captivated by her motherhood, she remarked at the time.
Certain guys could have been different, and they might have thought it was complex, but it wasn’t for him.
And, despite his film fame and red carpet appearances, he will always remain Matt to her.
When one meets someone with whom one has a connection, that’s all that matters; all the other stuff—the movie-star part—wasn’t really a consideration. It was simply Matt; he’s just Matt to her.
Damon and Lucy married in 2005, and they had three kids, Isabelle, Gia, and Stella, in addition to Lucy’s daughter Alexia.
Damon, 51, has subsequently appeared in films such as The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Identity, The Talented Mr Ripley, and Stillwater.
However, after marrying and having kids, the actor has stated that he will never be away from his family for more than two weeks while filming. If a project needs more, he seeks to bring them along.
Every decision to produce a film is entirely up to the family. He just can’t do it if it’s going to be too disturbing, he said.
They try not to stay separated for more than two weeks. They have a two-week guideline, but three weeks is the longest they’ve ever been away.
Sometimes it’s an adventure, he continued. Last year, he spent six months in China with his family, which was fantastic.
Although being one of Hollywood’s greatest celebrities, Damon has managed to keep his family out of the spotlight, which he attributes to them not being intriguing enough for the paparazzi to follow.
They can attempt to track him down, but it’ll always be the same story—middle-aged married guy with four children, he previously stated.
There’s no hunger for it as long as that story doesn’t shift too much. There’s not much to say if he is not jumping up and down on a bar, setting something on fire, or cheating on his wife.
This couple’s relationship is a success story in Hollywood. Luciana and his daughters clearly keep him grounded.
