Lauren Banks began experiencing labor pains with her second child a week before her due date and drove with her husband to CarolinaEast Medical Center in North Carolina. Lauren said that she was forced to give birth in the front seat of her car after a hospital supposedly declined to admit her siting reason that she wasn’t dilated enough.
Lauren says that doctors said her cervix had to be dilated to five centimetres before she would be admitted and since she was at just four centimetres, they sent her back home. Her labor developed fast and it wasn’t long before her husband, Steve, had to pull over into a parking lot to deliver their baby himself. Lauren said that she was told the hospital was occupied and she couldn’t be admitted till she was in active labor.
Steve drove her back home but as soon as they’d reached, Lauren told him they required to go back to the hospital. This time, they decided to try a different hospital. Lauren’s water broke and while they were on the road, she realized that her baby was crowning. Steve pulled his car into a convenience store parking lot, where he called 911. They talked him through delivering the baby while Lauren did sitting up.
Steve said that he watched his wife give birth to his son right there in the parking lot. His son came out and he was purple and he wasn’t making a lot of noise. Steve was concerned on top of everything else going on.
EMTs soon arrived. They came up and saw what was happening and jumped into action. Steve said that he can’t thank them enough as he is assured that they are a large part of the reason to why the whole thing went as effortlessly as it did and there were no difficulties.
The EMTs transported Lauren back to same hospital she was turned away from and she thinks they soon recognized their error. A representative for the hospital told that while they couldn’t remark on the case because of patient discretion laws but they denied her story.
The hospital said that they categorically did not and would not turn anyone away from the hospital. They added that it is their pleasure to take care of those in need 24/7/365 and has been for more than 55 years. However, they also restated what they told her that certain pregnancy metrics must be hit before a pregnant person can be admitted.
They stated that the baby certainly made an unexpected entrance but they are so happy he is healthy and precious and absolutely wish the family all the best.
The duo named their baby boy Truett and while he is in good physical shape, they said he deserved better than what he got. They also said that they want an admission of guilt from the hospital and their medical bills covered.
