A young boy was walking alone in a parking lot in Central West Austin, Texas. Someone spotted him doing that and feared for his safety, so police on patrol in the area were alerted. Soon, Officer James Riley was approaching the young boy to find out what he was doing.
The boy told the officer that he was walking to the store to get some snacks for him and his young sibling. Riley decided to give the boy a ride home. When the youngster guided the officer to his house, the officer was invited inside and informed that the family was going through some severe financial issues.
He then told the children that, because of safety, they should never leave their house and walk to the store without having an adult with them. He left after that, but he did something that would help the family out. He went to the grocery store and, with his own money, bought a cart full of food. Then he delivered it to the family.
The Austin Police Department posted about Officer Riley’s deed on its Facebook page, saying: “He showed true heart with this act of kindness and is just one example of how our officers work to make Austin a safe community.”
