Queen’s ‘Favorite’ Grandchild Earned $8 Per Hour At Summer Job, Is Devastated At Her Grandmother’s Loss

When one thinks of the royal family, one typically imagines a wealthy existence in which one does not need to raise a finger. While this may be true for certain royals, the younger generation appears to be breaking with tradition.

Particularly Lady Louise Windsor, who had a minimum-wage job before attending university, as many individuals of her age do.

From her 4 kids, Queen Elizabeth II has eight grandkids. While the public is best familiar with Prince William and Prince Harry, the monarch adores her other grandchildren as well.

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, is the Queen’s youngest child. He is the 14th in line to the throne of the United Kingdom. Prince Edward is married to Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and they have 2 kids.

Lady Louise Windsor is their oldest child, and she is now 18 years old, while their son James, Viscount Severn, is 14 years old.

Lady Louise Windsor had recently passed her A’levels (high school-level examinations) and was looking forward to starting university. Her scores secured her admission to St. Andrews University in Scotland, where she would major in English.

She follows in the footsteps of her cousin, Prince William, who attended the institution where he spent his childhood until graduating in 2005. The institution is also where he met his future wife, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

Lady Louise, like many other students who find themselves with spare time after finishing high school and waiting for their results and the commencement of university, took up a job to keep herself busy.

Yet, the work was not as luxurious as one might assume of a royal. She was working as a garden center assistant. She worked at the garden center doing a variety of chores such as trimming and potting plants, greeting customers, and working on the tills.

She worked multiple shifts many times a week to earn the minimum wage in the UK for everyone over the age of 18, which is £6.83 per hour, or roughly $8.

People were taken aback when they saw the young prince working at a garden center.

Lady Louise Windsor struggled with health issues as a kid. She had to have her eyes operated on when she was just 18 months old. Esotropia is an uncommon eye ailment that she was born with.

Strabismus occurs when one of the eyes bends inwards due to the disorder. Sophie, Countess of Wessex, previously informed the press that the problem her daughter has, esotropia, is common in preterm children since the eyes are the last organ to develop throughout the gestation period.

The initial procedure did not go as well as they had intended. Because the situation did not have a one-time repair, it required some time to fix. Medical personnel had to ensure that one of her eyes did not grow dominant over the other.

And in 2014, when the little prince was ten years old, another procedure was conducted, with positive results.

Lady Louise turned 18 last year and turned down an invitation to work as a member of the royal family. It’s hardly unexpected that she declined the invitation, given that her mother has stated that her kids are not to use their royal titles as adults.

In June 2020, the Countess of Wessex stated that it was unlikely that her kids would use the HRH title after the age of 18.

Irrespective of their royal rank, the Countess of Wessex and Earl of Wessex have always sought to provide an “ordinary” existence for their kids. They have instilled in their kids the importance of earning money and working hard.

And it appears that their goal for their kids to establish their own professions and hold down regular jobs has come true, as young Lady Louise now works at a garden shop.

She sets a good example for her kids by being one of the most active and hardworking members of the royal family, serving as a patron to over 70 organizations.

Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, who used to be a secretary, stated that her kids enjoyed a regular life comparable to that of any average adolescent in the United Kingdom. She stated that her children attend a regular school, attend parties at their friends’ houses, and have the occasional sleepover.

She also stated that she and her spouse spend a significant amount of time with their kids. Discussing how the family frequently takes their beloved dogs on weekend walks.

She also discussed how Prince Edward has set a high standard for them as a family by being active in his family’s lives. She praised her husband for being “extremely involved as a dad,” citing evidence of his dedication to his family such as cooking for them, going on fishing excursions with his son, and riding with his daughter.

Despite her refusal to accept her royal title, she was present during the Platinum Jubilee festivities. She also made her broadcast debut in a program on her late grandpa, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Sophie has also discussed her children’s relationship with their grandmother. She said that their grandma was not your typical grandmother since she “lived in a castle, where you are going is not the essential part, or who they are,” and that while her kids were with the Queen, she was just “their grandmother.”

Lady Louise’s personal connection with her grandmother is said to have been quite close. The Queen was said to be extremely close to her granddaughter Louise when the family spent time with the queen at their Scottish home, Balmoral, in 2019.

Louise was said to have joined her grandma on horseback riding lessons during the three days the family spent there. After the visit, she was claimed to have been the Queen’s favorite granddaughter. According to reports, the Queen thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren’s visit.

In May 2022, her affection for her grandchild was front and center. The Queen, who has mostly faded from public view due to her late age, made a rare public appearance at the Royal Windsor Horse Show to cheer on and support her cherished granddaughter, Lady Louise.

A carriage exhibition was held to commemorate the Fell Pony Society’s 100th anniversary.

One of the reasons Lady Louise has been nicknamed the Queen’s favorite granddaughter is that both women share the same interest: a passion for horses. The little queen has been pictured several times riding horses on her grandmother’s different properties.

While the Wessex kids are close to their grandmother, they are also close to their late grandpa, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, according to royal historian Marlene Koenig.

Lady Louise has the unusual privilege of being the Queen’s youngest grandchild, which may explain why the Queen lavished so much attention on her.

The monarch’s bond with her youngest grandchild is unquestionably unique.

As a result, when the news of the Queen’s death broke, everyone knew Lady Louise would be crushed. She was last seen at Balmoral on September 10th, two days after her grandma died.

The young prince was dressed in black and apparently in sorrow for a close personal loss. Her eyes seemed to be puffy from crying, which is reasonable.

She walked to the church service with her mother, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, maybe to gain strength.

Lady Louise paused and bowed down on the way to look at the flowers and cards left at Balmoral to offer their sorrow at the Queen’s passing.

It’s natural that little Lady Louise is devastated by the passing of her loving grandma. We send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family.
