In Florida, a 12-year-old girl escaped her dad’s attack by pretending to be dead after he killed her 3-year-old sister.
Juan Bravo-Torres, the dad, is accused of fatally stabbing his 3-year-old daughter and attacking his 12-year-old daughter early on Thursday morning. He is also charged with attempted murder.
The 12-year-old girl was asleep when she was woken by her dad, Bravo-Torres, grabbing for her throat, according to an arrest affidavit. The girl assumed that Bravo-Torres was reaching for her necklace, Bravo-Torres seized her and slit her throat.
The kid tried to flee the bedroom when Bravo-Torres returned to grab another knife and discovered her 3-year-old sister dead in the hallway.
The youngster allegedly fought back when Bravo-Torres came back and finally “played dead” in the hopes that Bravo-Torres would quit attacking her, as per the affidavit.
After dragging the 12-year-old and her younger sister into the toilet, the dad allegedly slashed his own wrists while the girl “heard what sounded like he was slashing his throat,” according to the police.
The youngster then remained motionless until she believed her father had passed out, seized the knife he had used in the incident to defend herself, and ran about a mile to a McDonald’s nearby where her mom worked.
The youngster told her mom at McDonald’s what occurred, and Longwood police were notified.
“At that age, being assaulted with a knife while you were asleep, seeing your younger sister in such bad shape, fending against your dad, and thinking, “How am I going to get out of this?” She left the house when he fell unconscious and went to where she knew her mother was, and it’s amazing, “Sgt. Derek Chenoweth of the Longwood police remarked during a news conference. This 12-year-old made a choice that “grown people may not have been able to make, and she did it, and she’s alive today due to the decisions that she made.”
At 5:40 a.m., authorities discovered Bravos-Torres seriously hurt and the 3-year-old child dead.
Bravo-Torres and the girl were then taken urgently to the hospital. Bravo-Torres is detained at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility and is now under arrest.
Officers from the Longwood Police Department decorated the monument where the 3-year-old was slain with flowers and balloons.
