Christopher Wilson was upset and angry after his teen daughter Karis, 17, a high school student in Grade 12, was disgraced and sent back home for being inappropriately dressed. He expressed initially about the scenario in a live Facebook video that went viral soon.
With his daughter’s permission he also shared the photo of what his daughter wore that day to school. He explained that his daughter who was thrilled to go to school felt good about her and was all ready to learn as she sat down in class but came crying and confused home saying that her attire reminded a female teacher of a “lingerie outfit” and made a male teacher uncomfortable so she was sent back home.
Karis, wore a knee-length black dress with lace trim over a white long sleeves turtleneck. The school in which she studied in Kamloops, British Columbia stated that what Karis wore violated its dress code. However Christopher, her dad felt the situation was ridiculous and that his daughter wore a “very modest” dress. He blamed the school employees for simply overreacting. He mentioned that Karis was pulled out of her class by a teacher and taken to the principal’s office where the principal later agreed the outfit was not inappropriate.
Christopher also stated, “There was a female who was singled out because what she’s wearing could make someone in a position of power over her feel uncomfortable. And the more you think of it, the more you say it, the more you understand that this is absurd.”
The father is hurt, upset by the system. He was speechless with the school having this thinking on today’s time. He added the principal showed him the dress code that banned students from wearing “that is distracting to teaching or learning.”
He said in a post, “After asking her how she would like me to handle it she said she wanted to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen to the students that come after her. Please stand with Karis and I and make sure that those involved are held accountable and that this never happens again.”
After the incident that took place with Karis, the next day her classmates expressed their support towards her by staging a walkout.
