Last month, a youngster in North Carolina sadly died after finding his father’s loaded firearm in his pickup truck and inadvertently shooting himself in the head.
After responding to complaints of a shooting at a residence in Benson shortly before 6 p.m. on October 15, police discovered Warren Bennett Oser, two, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Prosecutors said the little kid entered his father’s pickup truck through an open door, where he discovered the loaded Smith & Wesson.
A 40-caliber handgun was found in the front seat.
He then began to experiment with the firearm, accidently shooting himself in the head.
Prosecutors claim that both of the boy’s parents were there at the time, and he was immediately brought to Johnson Medical Center Clayton, where he was declared dead.
Tyler Oser, the boy’s father, will now be arrested for failing to properly and safely lock his guns to protect kids, according to the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office on Monday.
In a statement, District Attorney Susan Doyle stated that her heart goes out to the parents as they lament the death of their son.
These disasters are 100 percent preventable, she noted, by carefully keeping any guns away from little kids, as mandated by law.
This is not about legal gun ownership, Doyle clarified. This is about gun owners’ obligation to safeguard minors by ensuring that firearms are stored securely away from kids.
Following the incident, family members met at Emily and Tyler Oser’s Benson home to assist them.
They’re having to gather money for a 2-year-old’s funeral said one family member.
However, a GoFundMe page put up to help the parents has gathered more than $22,000 for the bereaved family.
The toddler’s family remembers Warren whom they nicknamed Bennett for all of his favorite activities, such as ‘help Dada work,’ in an obituary posted online.
The child was characterized as a free spirit with a crazy soul who always had them on their toes.
Bennett was a joyful youngster who sincerely loved everybody in his life, the statement stated. He would go through his list of favorite persons to try and visit every day.’
Though his life was short, his spirit and memories live on in the hearts and minds of his family and friends.
