Two children were murdered in a tragic collision when their intoxicated and slurring aunt lost control of the vehicle she was driving while their mom was a passenger.
According to Las Vegas police, Kaleah Sharelle Manning, 23, had a strong stench of alcohol coming from her lips every time she ‘opened it to talk’ after the Sunday night crash.
Little Taylor, 3, and Rose Wilmer, 2, were killed in the collision on Scott Robinson Boulevard at 9.15 p.m.
Rose died at the spot, while Taylor was taken to the University Medical Center yet died on Monday morning.
Manning, the girl’s aunt, was driving the silver 2004 Honda Odyssey van when it went off the road and hit a small tree, then a light post, and finally a giant palm tree.
Raenysa Clydette-Glenn Washington, 25, was in the front passenger seat when the automobile collided.
In the aftermath of the event, witnesses allege they witnessed a ‘intoxicated’ lady toss the corpse of one of the girls on the floor before treading on her.
Both ladies were transported to the hospital and handcuffed to their beds while healing from their serious injuries at the start of the week.
Officer Alexander Cuevas of the North Las Vegas Police Department reported that both ladies are facing several charges in relation with the fatalities.
Manning and Washington shared an address with the two tiny girls, while their mom was charged with two charges of neglect and endangerment, both of which caused them to die.
Manning, their aunt, is charged with three counts of DUI resulting in serious bodily damage or death, as well as driving with a suspended license and driving without proof of insurance.
They have not yet been booked into the Clark County Detention Centre and were booked in absentia due to their hospitalization.
Witnesses allege they observed one of the ladies involved in the incident holding one of the small girls’ bodies in her arms before throwing her to the ground and tripping over it.
Isaac Garcia told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that it ‘shocked’ him and shattered his heart since she simply ‘left the kid there’.
Another teenage witness said the lady looked to be inebriated, adding that when she was getting out of the car, she just stepped on the infant and walked to the grass
The vehicle was totally destroyed, according to pictures, and police files suggest that both girls were not in kid car seats on the night of the event.
According to police, both children were using adult seat belts instead of the seats required by law.
After the collision, Manning was allegedly slurring her words, with investigators claiming her eyes were bloodshot and she kept repeating herself.
According to the police report, she admitted to drinking two shots of alcohol, and blood tests to determine the amount of alcohol in her system are still pending.
The girl’s father, Tavon Wilmer, 22, said the collision was something that should never have occurred.
His kids were gorgeous, brilliant girls, he remarked.
The collision is still being investigated, according to Detective Cuevas, who stated during a news conferencehis that this is a call to action concerning DUI, speed, and proper kid restraints.
Manning is also charged with two charges of child neglect/endangerment resulting in death, two counts of driving without child safety straps, and failing to maintain a travel lane.
