Tony Bennett’s wife is speaking out about the singer’s condition following his final concerts.
Susan Benedetto and other members of Tony’s family reported in February 2021 that the 95-year-old had Alzheimer’s disease. Tony celebrated his farewell concerts with Lady Gaga, his regular musical companion in recent years, in back-to-back sets at Radio City Music Hall.
Following the concerts, Anderson Cooper interviewed Tony and Susan. Susan was candid about how the condition has affected her spouse. Thank heavens he recognized her, his kids, they are lucky in a lot of ways, Susan said Anderson. He’s quite kind.
Susan has already spoken publicly about Tony’s diagnosis procedure. He isn’t conscious of his predicament, she explains.
He has no idea he has it, she explained.

Tony, on the other hand, is as bright as ever when it comes to music. Tony can play several of his hits without looking at a lyric sheet or sheet music.
Tony likes to say he’s in the business of helping folks feel wonderful, Susan explained.
Tony was diagnosed by Dr. Gayatri Devi in 2017. Tony understands he’s Tony Bennett, and he understands how to behave like Tony Bennett, she said.
That is a component of his brain that is inherently ingrained. It’s also a part of his brain that gives them genuine meaning and purpose in his life, and it’s emotionally charged. She means that the other thing about music that distinguishes it is that it is a highly emotional portion of the brain, Dr. Devi said.
Because music is contained in numerous sections of the brain, including emotional parts of the brain, it’s simple to be affected by it when you encounter it.
In recent years, Lady Gaga has formed a close friendship and professional connection with Tony. She has considered what his last performance means to her.
It’s not a depressing narrative, she explained. It’s upsetting. It’s difficult to see someone evolve.
She believes what’s been lovely and hard about this is seeing how it impacts him in certain ways while not affecting his abilities, she concluded.
She believes he struggled through something to offer the world the gift of understanding that things may change and you can still be great.
